Rumi passed away in 1273. 2023 was the 750th anniversary of his death, in other words, of his Reunion. His death, like that of all of us, is a Reunion because Rumi describes our life on Earth as a separation from the Beloved. For him, death is not an end but a Reunion. So for centuries his books and mostly Mathnawi, as his masterpiece, is read and commentated by different names in different places in various times. This book in your hand is on the commentaries of Mathnawi. Those commentaries have been taken as a method of translation and interpretation of Mathnawi regarding the cultural background of the commentators, the readers and the listeners. This book is the updated and extended version of the author’s graduate thesis given in Boğaziçi University Department of Translation Studies and Interpretation. It is the first example of handling commentaries of Mathnawi as a way of translating and interpreting. Hoping and expecting that new and updated versions of commentaries of Mathnawi are made and let the followers and lovers of Rumi unite with our time.
